8. Remove unused items from vehicle to reduce load - Remove those golf bags, suit cases, useless tools from your vehicle it all adds up, the more load you have in your vehicle the more gas your going to use

9. Remove racks from roof or rear - Shed those pounds, reduce wind resistance! By removing any ski racks, bike racks, cargo racks your lightning your load and reducing drag drastically on your vehicle

11. Have a planned route - Be prepared! Get directions, research with maps, use a GPS when traveling to unknown locations. This will reduce needless driving when you get lost and refuse to pull over.

12. Avoid quick bursts of acceleration and deceleration - Accelerating quickly uses more gas

13. Use windows at low speeds - Need to cool down? When traveling at lower speeds opening the windows will save more gas then using the air conditioner

14. Use A/C at highway speeds - Use A/C to cool you down rather then windows, as windows create massive drag/wind resistance which will use more gas

15. Stay in the shade - Gas can evaporate from the tank just like water! Every bit helps right? As well this will help keep the interior cooler, reducing possible A/C usage

16. Avoid rush hour - If only it were that simple right? By avoiding rush hour, you reduce travel time, traffic jams, backups, etc. Try leaving a little earlier, or later from work

17. Don’t warm up car forever - Keep it short. Avoid long warm up times in the winter, keep to a few minutes. Parking in a garage or using a engine block heater may help you out with that

24. Use proper gas octane - Use the proper gas octane for your vehicle, not doing so may result in loss of performance and lower your mpg

25. Don’t add aftermarket pieces - Such as a spoiler wing as it creates more drag

26. Mix Octanes - Does the gas station not provide your recommended octane rating, instead of buying the next highest, try mixing a lower and higher together

27. Buy a different car - Try a hybrid, electric, diesel, manual transmission car, or just plain and simple a different car with better MPG rating

28. Brake/coast in anticipation of lights and traffic - See a light that’s red, that may turn green soon, try lowering your speed slowly in anticipation to avoid braking, re- acceleration etc

29. Leave more space between you and vehicle ahead - to reduce braking, and allow for more coasting room

30. Manual shift at lowest rpm you can manage - If your car is manual shifting at the lower rps will help you save gas

31. Rent a more fuel efficient car for longer trips - calculate first to see if there would be savings

36. Make sure your Fuel Cap is placed back on - Simple, but true. Don’t want that freshly bought gas to disappear do ya. Having the cap off can cause it to evaporate.

37. Keep truck tailgate up -Research has shown it to better benefit the mpg, then having it down, even though it may seem like it would increase drag by leaving it up. The truck was designed aerodynamically to work with it up.
